Beckett, many years ago I had the good fortune of making friends with the award-winning novelist, Reynolds Price. He had a sweet deal at Duke University teaching Writing one semester and then be off to write for the full second semester. I used to visit him at his home in Raleigh, North Carolina. He showed me his study and explained his daily routine. He’d be up by 6:00, Shower/shave, make coffee and then go to his desk and write for three hours, every day. I said, “Gosh Reynolds, you must love writing.” He said, “No, I hate, absolutely hate it-but I love having written.”
